Overnight Fire Destroys RV in East Wenatchee, One Person Taken to Hospital
A parked recreational vehicle is a complete loss after catching fire overnight between 2:30 and 3:00 am Monday.
Crews from Chelan County 1 and Douglas County 2 departments were sent to the fire in the 2400 block of Sunset Highway in East Wenatchee, where the RV had already been overtaken by flames.
Spokesperson Kay McKellar says a caller requested help for a burn victim, who was able to speak to firefighters before being taken to Central Washington Hospital.
"The patient that was transported, an occupant of the house, said he thought the cause was a space heater," said McKellar. "Our guys were not able to determine that. This is what he believed was the cause of the fire."
The condition of the burn victim from the fire is unknown. A dog reported missing from the fire was not located.
The fire was quickly put out, and firefighters left the scene shortly before 4 am.
McKellar also said the unusually cold weather is triggering a large number of fire alarms in the Wenatchee area, including at commercial buildings.
"Tree Top and Safeway had fire alarms that had broken risers in their system that trigger alarms, and in one case water actually trickled into the building," McKellar said.
She suggested residents may want to keep water trickling in faucets at their homes to protect against freezing pipes.
