The Quincy Police Department is looking into a threat posted by a Quincy Middle School student Wednesday to social media.

According to a Thursday afternoon post on the department's Facebook page, police were notified of potential threats over Instagram geared towards the middle school and some of the students. The 14-year-old student was identified as the account holder and admitted to investigators that he and his friends were only joking.

At this time the Quincy Police Department does not believe there is a credible threat to the school, and eventually information on the case will be forwarded to the Grant County Prosecutor's Office.

The latest incident comes after a threat was discovered written on a bathroom stall at the middle school Tuesday, and a rumor of a student with a hit list last Friday. Police will provide extra patrols in and around the schools for the time being.
