The second alarm brush fire on Number 2 Canyon Road, near milepost 3, Sunday night is the result of target shooting.

According to public information officer, Kay McKellar, crews responded at 7:35 p.m. after folks that were shooting firearms reported a fire the size of a mobile home. The fire was two acres and moving uphill.

Crews were assisted with an air resource and the fire grew to less than 5 acres. Crews were able to stop it on the slope before it made it up the hill. Douglas County 2, Cashmere Fire Department and Chelan County No. 6 assisted.

"The cause was people discharging firearms into the dry brush," said McKellar.

A 50 square foot fire that was moving uphill also occurred Sunday at 3:45 p.m. along SR 28, near Rock Island. Crews quickly got it under control and only a third of an acre burned.
