Chelan Fire and Rescue quickly controlled and extinguished a fire in an hour Monday afternoon after an illegal burn and windy conditions led to its spread. A Chelan Fire and Rescue firefighter that lives up Tennant Lane in Chelan alerted crews at about 4:15 p.m. after his wife spotted smoke.

"When we got up there, we found a burn pile that had probably been started a couple days ago," said Chief Mark Donnell.

The unattended burn pile was 10' x 50' and the homeowners were off the property and out of town, according to Donnell. The fire had rekindled and reginted to take up about a quarter of an acre.
