Wenatchee Police Rescue DUI Suspect Before His Truck Rolls Into Columbia River
A man could face drunk driving charges after a dramatic rescue by the Wenatchee Police Department.
Officers were called to an area next to the Columbia River south of the Odabashian Bridge at about 5:45 Friday morning over a pickup truck reported to be driving recklessly and tearing up the land.
Sgt. Joe Eaton says they were able to reach the driver, who had driven the truck's front wheels into the river. He said communications to the driver were limited as officers got closer to him, possibly because of impairment.
Officers pulled the driver from the truck before it continued into the river and became fully submerged.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment and is under investigation for DUI charges.
Eaton said the truck became quickly submerged into the Columbia River and went at least five feet under water. He said the truck's headlights could be seen from under water.
