Wenatchee School District Looking for More Feedback on Potential Schedule Changes
The Wenatchee School District is conducting another survey on possible changes to school start and end times that would begin next school year.
Superintendent Dr. Paul Gordon says they had more than 1,700 responses to their first survey in which 61 percent of people approved of the proposed changes.
"We wanted to take a deeper dive into it. Some of [the feedback] was around child care for afternoons and child care before school. Extra-curricular activities like sports, clubs and other activities that occur after school with concern about the late starts."
Gordon says they are asking about a couple of different scheduling options.
"Then we'll take that information, really understand what community members are saying to us, our staff members are saying to us and our students are saying to us and then make a decision. I hope to have a final decision on June 9th on our final start and end times."
The survey will ask about starting two options, one that would start elementary schools earlier than secondary, and the other the reverse.
Gordon says starting elementary schools before secondary is steeped in research on children's brains.
