Wenatchee Valley College's College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) will continue for at least another half decade.

It was announced in late August that the college had earned funding for another 5 year grant cycle. The grant will fund the entire program and amount to around $425,000 per year. This is the third time WVC has been awarded a 5-year CAMP grant.

CAMP is a federally-funded program designed to provide academic, career and support services, financial assistance, and other services to migrant and seasonal farmworkers or members of their immediate families during their first year of college.

Community Relations Executive Director Libby Siebens said the program serves about 55 students every year.

"(CAMP students') transfer rates are outstanding once they're done with their two-year degree here at WVC." explained Siebens, "About 70% of all of our CAMP students that go through the program go on and transfer to a four year university."

When applying for the grant, Wenatchee Valley College saw a lot of help from the community.

"We received letters of support from the (North Central Education Service District), Chelan PUD, Apple STEM network, Wenatchee Learns, GWATA, Columbia Valley Community Health, Eastmont School District, Wenatchee School District, Worksource and YMCA," added Siebens.
